Career and Technical Education and Civil Rights
The State Education Department (SED) is required by the federal Office for Civil Rights to conduct civil rights compliance reviews and provide technical assistance to agencies receiving federal financial assistance, i.e., local school districts and Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). These reviews and the technical assistance provided are geared toward the prevention, identification, and remediation of discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, and disability in career and technical education programs that receive federal assistance. This ensures that all students have access to career and technical education programs and services.
