Summer 2025 Checkpoint B Assessment Workshops
NYSED OBEWL is sponsoring a two-day, in-person workshop in each of nine regions in New York State to support NYS world language educators to understand and apply the Principles and Guidelines for Adopting or Creating Locally Developed Benchmark Assessments for Checkpoint B (Modern Languages other than ASL). This document provides guidance to Local Educational Agencies and regional and statewide consortia for the creation of Checkpoint B Benchmark Assessments for Modern Languages aligned to the revised NYS Learning Standards for World Languages. Successful performance on a Checkpoint B Benchmark Assessment in tandem with passing the Checkpoint B course sequence fulfills the world language requirement of the Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation. Checkpoint B Benchmark Assessments must be aligned to the revised standards for the June 2027 administration. Workshop presenters will explain the guidelines outlined in the aforementioned document and will guide participants in designing assessment items that adhere to these guidelines. A member of the World Language Executive Committee will lead each workshop: Dr. Joanne O’Toole, Bill Heller, and Dr. Lori Langer de Ramírez. All workshops will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a one-hour lunch on your own.
