Computer-Based Testing (CBT)
The New York State Education Department continues to transition to computer-based testing (CBT) as part of its commitment to both meeting the needs of 21st century learners and improving test delivery, test integrity, scoring validity, and turn-around time on testing results.
- In Spring 2024, students in Grades 5 and 8 will be required to take the English Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science Tests via CBT. The remaining ELA and Math grade levels, Grades 3, 4, 6, and 7 have the option to participate in CBT in Spring 2024.
- In Spring 2025, students in Grades 4 and 6 will also be required to test via CBT for ELA and Math.
- In Spring 2026, students in Grades 3-8 will be required to participate in CBT.
- For additional information on the transition to computer-based testing, please see Memo: Statewide Implementation of Computer-based Testing.
