P-12 Staff Present to Board of Regents on NYS Seal of Biliteracy, Indigenous Language Support, and Student Recognition

On Monday, September 9, 2024, NYSED's P-12 Department Staff presented to the Board of Regents on the New York State Seal of Biliteracy and program supports for Indigenous language education.

The presentation included dedicated time for the Indigenous Languages Initiative, a program started by the Office of Bilingual Education and World Literacy in collaboration with the Office of Indigenous Education, the Indigenous Languages Steering Committee, and the Native American Indian Education Association of New York.

The presentation also recognized Lucille Jimerson and Timothy Williams as the first students in New York State history to earn the New York State Seal of Biliteracy in the Seneca language.
