The New York State Library's Manuscript and Special Collections Unit acquires, preserves, and provides access to manuscripts and person papers, rare books, and other special collections, including prints, posters and broadsides, and musical scores.
The intern will assist with the following:
- Answering email reference questions.
- Processing new collections.
- Rehousing/relocating existing collections.
- Creating/editing finding aids.
- Special research on projects as assigned.
This intern will work on real-world archival projects, which will provide valuable experience putting the theory of the classroom into practice.
The intern will gain experience in working with the public via virtual and in-person reference services, library classification systems, archival best practices, and housing and rehousing of newly donated collections of archival material.
This positions is open to matriculated students pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Library Science, Information Science, History, Literature, or a related field.
Interns will work flexible hours between 8a-5p, Monday through Friday, maximum of 29 hours per week.
